Body modification - the intentional alteration of the human body.
Body modification has been a staple of human culture since the dawn of time, but with the advanced procedures of the twenty-first century, have humans gone to far?
In rural China the practice of foot binding was a sign of status. To "bind a foot" a woman's feet are intentionally broken and left to heal in an unnatural form. It forced the woman to take much smaller steps, which was the custom of aristocratic Chinese women as they where never supposed to be in a rush. But this practice was not unique to China. To this day, In Borneo it is still common to see a native who has a bone through his nose or gauged ears, these both being signs of a strong male native. these examples are a bit archaic, usually done by the participant or a local volunteer, but the body modification of today is a booming market.

You may know it as "plastic surgery" or "getting inked" but the ideology is still the same, a desire to be independent from your peers. Sometimes it is a cry for help, and sometimes it is done just for pleasure or to commemorate a memory. The specifics are irrelevant, but what is the resounding factor is that it is still happening, and it's getting out of hand.
I present to you, Lizard Man. Lizard Man is a known body modifier, or as the detractors say a "body mutilator." He has had countless operations to make his body emulate that of, you guessed it, a lizard. I usually don't resort to profanity, but that is some crazy shit man... From having his tongue surgically forked to having his whole body including his scalp tattooed this man had completely stripped himself of his humanistic identity. Aside from his birth record the only way he can be identified is as Lizard Man, for obvious reasons, but what makes someone choose this lifestyle? Is it art, or a chemical deficiency in his brain? Is this a factor of intimidation, or a guise of protection that separates these extremists from the pressures of conforming to cookie-cutter society? You decide.
